Issaquah Chamber Programs & Committees

Our Legislative Voice

"Fighting for business...representing your interests at the local, state and federal levels."

For our voice to be heard in Olympia, the Issaquah Chamber founded the East King County Chambers of Commerce Legislative Coalition after the 1993 legislative session. The coalition includes the chambers of Issaquah, Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, Newcastle, Redmond, Sammamish, Snoqualmie Valley, Woodinville, and Maple Valley/Black Diamond. Entering our 16th year, the coalition covers ten state legislative districts, and represents over 23,000 member businesses that employ over 350,000 employees.

Committees

Joining a committee provides members with opportunities to impact the positions the Chamber takes on issues. The time you invest also gives you rewarding networking opportunities.

Ambassadors / Membership Committee

Chair – Garth Lindelef, The Tutoring ClubThe Ambassadors are some of the Chamber’s most highly visible, committed volunteers, and are frequently the first contact a new member will have upon joining the Chamber. Members can take advantage of warm leads as they welcome new members and provide networking opportunities. They act as greeters at a variety of events and lead the effort for Chocolate, Wine & All That Jazz, the annual holiday party, and other events.

Government Affairs Committee

Co-Chair – Tom Sessions, State Farm Insurance & Financial Services
Co-Chair – Janice Chamberlain, Costco Wholesale
This committee provides a forum for Chamber members to identify and promote discussion of local and regional issues affecting local businesses.  Committee members discuss and provide recommendations on policy proposals that relate to regulation, taxation or the general business climate. The committee coordinates discussions with elected officials, hosts an annual candidate forum, and participates in Chamber Day in Olympia.

Special Events Committee

Chair - Renee Zimmerman
The Membership Development Committee actively works to develop and service our members. Members take advantage of warm business referrals by providing new member coffees, job fairs, and information about events and resources that can promote and develop member businesses. The committee promotes a variety of member benefits including group employee benefits and insurance, influence, exposure and involvement.

Business Development Committee

Chair – Chad Rudolph, Action Coach of Washington
The Business Development Committee organizes programs, workshops and resources for local businesspeople to support the local economy and provide information on business skills, trends and resources that can help businesses succeed.

Education Committee

Chair – Cornell Atwater, Learning Rx
The Education Committee’s mission is to represent and communicate positions and actions on issues affecting all levels of education and worker retraining in our service area. Efforts focus on a better educated workforce in our community. Additionally, since 1988, over 30 high school graduates from the Issaquah School District have received scholarships provided by the Chamber.  The scholarship’s purpose, for which the corporation is organized, is to further the education of Issaquah high school graduates by offering them scholarship funds for higher education programs including but not limited to universities, colleges, junior colleges, business schools, and vocational-technical schools.

Festivals and Events Committee

Board Chair – Eileen Barber
The Issaquah Salmon Days Festival, presented by the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce, is the Chamber’s primary community promotion and celebration event. The objective for the committee is to assist the festival staff in the planning, preparation and execution of the award-winning celebration.
