National Wreaths Across America Day

During the weekend of October 5th and 6th, Overlake Squadron, from Civil Air Patrol (USAF Auxiliary), had the opportunity to support Salmon Days, Issaquah’s annual street fair and the second largest street fair in the state of Washington with 150,000 attendees throughout the weekend. Overlake had a team of young Cadets and Senior Members who performed a variety of logistics and support activities. It was a great experience for all involved.

Similarly, Overlake Squadron is honored to support National Wreaths Across America Day (www.wreathsacrossamerica.org), when we lay wreaths in respect to our military veterans in ceremonies at more than 1,600 locations across the United States, at sea and abroad. The Overlake Squadron supports the Tahoma National Cemetery for this event. Last year, there were only enough wreaths to cover 10% of the 23,000 graves at Tahoma, leaving more than 20,000 veteran’s graves without a wreath.

You can help support this important mission with yours and/or your corporate’s sponsorship of wreaths for this memorable, annual event. To sponsor, simply go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org, click the small Local Fundraising Group under the red Sponsor a Wreath button in the middle of the page, search for Overlake and complete the sponsorship. You can get there directly with this link - https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/44552/

Overlake Squadron’s goal is to increase the number of wreaths laid this year to cover at least 15% of the graves. If you wish to be further involved, the event on 14 December is open to the public to view and volunteer, as well.

Please visit Overlake Squadron’s page www.overlakecap.org for additional information about National Wreaths Across America Day and for wreaths’ donation opportunities.
